ILMAN Empowers Illinois Muslims: President ILMAN Inaugurates Organization Starting A New Chapter in Political Engagement
July 24, 2024On August 15th, the community gathered for an insightful event led by Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid. The event focused on how community members should engage local officials and its importance. He highlighted the unique opportunity to connect with elected representatives who share our community roots and are often open to our ideas for improvements.
The event also emphasized how Illinois policies impact our community. Staying active in local politics is crucial to ensuring you are heard, and such efforts are effectively supported. He also commended and offered support for protestors advocating for Gaza.
An important takeaway from this event is the accessibility of local officials. He actively encouraged the attendees to call the local officials or visit their office to request a meeting. Such approaches are likely to yield positive results, allowing local officials to be receptive and interact with the community.
He also discussed the value of investing in political power within our community. As we focus on leadership development within our community, especially among the youth, we stand to develop and empower future political leaders.
The discussion also denoted that 501(c)(3) organizations, such as mosques and community groups, have legal permission to host such speaker events, developing political influence among the communities.
Lastly, he expressed a strong interest in collaborating with the community for its growth and to inspire future leaders. Although a discussion, this event also served as a call to action for the community, urging everyone to partake in shaping local policies.
His dedication to bridging the gap between officials and the community is commendable. We look forward to future opportunities to collaborate and empower the community.
